Simi Valley, CA · Storm & Emergency
Storm work runs in two phases and we are clear with you about which one we are doing.
First priority is removing the immediate hazard. Getting the tree off the structure, cutting the hung-up limbs out of the canopy, clearing your driveway or the street, and stabilizing anything that could still move. Tarping over an opening if that is what the situation calls for.
Then clean it up. Full removal of the fallen material, hauling, stump grinding if you want it, and an assessment of what is left standing. A storm that took one tree often left damage in the ones around it.
Everything is rigged and lowered rather than dropped, because there is already damage on the ground and no reason to add to it. We bring a crane when access allows and it is the safer choice, and a climber when it is not.
And we do not touch anything within 10 feet of an energized line. Only line-clearance qualified crews may work in that zone under state utility rules, so that part goes to SCE. We work everything outside it.
A storm-damaged tree is loaded. Branches are bent under tension, trunks are pinched under compression, and a limb pinned under a fallen section is a spring pole that releases the instant you cut it. A partially split trunk can barber chair, meaning it splits upward and back toward whoever is holding the saw, faster than anyone can move.
None of that is visible from the ground. You find it when you make the cut.
Add a ladder, wet ground, and a tree resting on a roof, and it is the worst possible combination of conditions to learn on. Our crews work to ANSI Z133 standards, which exist specifically for cutting wood that is under load.
We tell you honestly whether you have a real emergency or something that can wait until morning, because selling somebody a midnight call they did not need is a bad way to earn a customer. We document the damage for your claim. We rig and lower rather than drop, since there is already enough damage on the ground. And we are based here. Our trucks run Los Angeles Avenue, Erringer, and Tapo every week, and we will still be answering this number next spring.
Some storm damage can’t wait. Call us right away if you see any of these:
